Chinese moon cake festival

Moon Festival is a festival in the middle of autumn and is known as Moon Festival or Chong Chiv Jia Chea. A festival to celebrate the harvest season, held by Chinese, Taiwanese and Vietnamese people.

This ceremony is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of China and corresponds to September or October of the Khmer solar calendar.

In the moon cake offering ceremony, there is a legend as follows:

In ancient China, there was a hero named Hou Yi who excelled in archery. Hou Yi has a wife named Chang’e.

At that time, there were 10 suns in the sky, causing disaster to the people. Hou Yi sprayed the nine suns with only one to provide light to the people. That's when Hou Yi became the hero of the Chinese people.

The king greatly admired Hou Yi and gave him immortal medicine that allowed him to fly into the sky. But the problem is that there is only one bottle of water for one person.

Hou Yi did not want to leave his wife, so he asked Chang’e to keep the medicine. But Peng Meng, one of his students, knew the secret. On the 15th of August on the calendar, when Yi went hunting, Peng Meng entered Hou Yi's house and forced Chang'e to surrender. The immortal medicine came to them. Chang’e refused and she drank into her stomach and flew into the sky.

She loves her husband very much and hopes to live together forever, so she chooses the moon as a home. When Hou Yi returned, he realized what had happened and felt very sad. As a reminder to his wife, he brought Chang’e's favorite fruits and cakes to her who lives on the moon.

People who became aware of these activities also began to participate in these sacrifices with Hou Yi.

Since then, the practice of offering sacrifices to the moon has spread throughout the generation, and people have sacrificed to Chang'e. To remind her of her devotion to her husband and living on the moon alone and praying for peace And good luck to the next generation as well.
