In a bizarre incident, a man from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, divorced his wife because she did not bathe every day, according to a report on khaleejtimes on Sunday, September 26th.
The story broke after the woman filed a complaint with the Women's Protection Agency seeking to save her marriage.
"A woman gave us a written complaint stating that her husband had filed for divorce three times on the pretext that she refused to take a shower every day. "To couples and their parents to save their marriage."
The counselor added that the man was adamant about the decision to divorce and had also applied for assistance. In the petition, the man said the couple had been arguing verbally every day over the issue.
The women's rights group said it was trying to counsel the man, citing minor issues that could be resolved. "We are also trying to make him understand that their divorce could affect their upbringing," the counselor added.
According to the unit, the woman said she hopes to continue her marriage and lead a happy life with her husband.
Both are given time to think about divorce. They have been married for two years and have a one-year-old child together.
