Battambang is one of the oldest provinces in Cambodia, leaving behind many historic buildings and swimming through many eras, as well as being in the grip of conquest from neighboring countries.
One of the pagodas in Battambang province is an old pagoda and also left the biography of famous people in this province, that is "Wat Vibol Tharam called Wat Kandal".
Wat Vibol Tharam (Kandal) is located in Romchek 4 Village, Sangkat Rattanak, Battambang Municipality, Battambang Province, about 500m from Battambang Provincial Hall.
Wat Vibol Tharam (Kandal) was built in 1863 by the villagers. The reason we call this pagoda Wat Kandal is based on the location of the pagoda in the middle of two pagodas, Wat Po Knong and Wat Sangke. This pagoda was also a place for interrogation, detention and torture of prisoners during the genocidal regime of Pol Pot.
This pagoda has many features such as:
There are many old buildings in the French era.
There is a gate with ancient Khmer style
There is a temple behind the pagoda with the top 5 as well.
There is a beautiful garden to visit.
