Thailand plans to put 'Sankrant' and ' Tong yum' on the UNESCO cultural heritage List


The Ministry of Culture announced on December 23 that its Committee for the Promotion and Preservation of Cultural Heritage has decided to put Songkran on the UN Humanitarian Heritage List UNESCO.

According to the report, the body is currently preparing documents for cabinet approval in February 2020 to register for the Khmer New Year. Thailand, commonly known as the Sankranti, is a UNESCO cultural heritage. According to the Bangkok Post, the Thai culture minister quoted him as saying.
Thai Minister of Culture Itthiphol Kunplome confirmed on Monday that the committee will submit a proposal to the cabinet for approval by February next year and send it to UNESCO next month.

The minister added that the UNESCO list of proposals should be completed by 2022 as soon as possible.
