Very good! Banteay Srei temple repaired to be safe

The structure of the third wall of Banteay Srei temple, which was damaged and dilapidated, was repaired by conservation experts and resisted to avoid danger. The third wall, which has now been repaired and supported, has five locations and a total length of 40 meters.

According to the Apsara Authority, the main purpose of the repair is to reduce the serious damage to the wall structure and to rescue other related structures in a timely manner.

Mr. Saray Kim Huol, Archaeologist and Head of Banteay Srei Conservation Project, said that the reason for the deterioration of the structure of the walls and temples is due to natural factors combined with the longevity of the construction, that is, part of the structure was destroyed by The collapse of the trees suppressed the roots of the large trees, causing the foundations to collapse and crack differently from the original form.

Banteay Srei was restored by the French in 1916. From 1924, the French School of the Far East (EFEO) pioneered the forest and began a series of research studies. In 1931-1936, a large-scale restoration of the Ansallo technique began, led by Henry Marchal.

In 2005, Switzerland and the Apsara Authority collaborated to excavate and save the temple to preserve its ancient beauty and design it as the first hospital venue in Angkor Park.

In 2016, the APSARA Authority repaired and strengthened the structure of the gates and laterite walls by preserving the original form of the building and re-considering the use of traditional techniques, including materials and history of construction. However, Banteay Srei still has many structures that have not been repaired and require further conservation and repair.
