Good news! Japan donates 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Cambodia

 Phnom Penh: On July 13, 2021, the Government of Japan announced the provision of approximately 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Cambodia. This assistance is in line with the relationship between Japan and Cambodia and is based on the current situation of Covid 19 in Cambodia.

The Japanese-licensed vaccine will be delivered to Phnom Penh soon when the logistics by the COVAX Facility is completed.

HE MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, hopes that this assistance will support the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts to combat Covid 19 as well as alleviate some of the concerns of the Cambodian people.

In the face of the spread of new infections that the world is facing, vaccination and strengthening of the health system are important for the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia. To date, the Japanese government has provided a total of more than US $ 50 million in assistance to Cambodia, including the provision of medical equipment, hospital improvements, support for international organizations' projects for measures to prevent cross-border infections, as well as Providing equipment for proper transportation and storage of vaccines. We have also provided about $ 227 million in loans to be used in cash assistance programs for people affected by Covid 19 and to strengthen the health system.

The Ambassador expressed his deep respect to all health professionals and relevant government officials who are taking action against Covid 19, as well as all the people who are struggling to cope with this difficult situation.

In the fight against Covid 19, which is a global problem, Japan will continue to cooperate and work with Cambodia, our key friend, and hope that the situation will improve in the near future. Both our countries and the world will be able to restart.
