Philippines orders removal of Makati police chief over's case

Philippine National Police Chief General Debold Sinas has ordered the removal of a police chief in a wealthy area of the Philippine capital for failing to address suspected cases of rape and murder of a flight attendant.

The case of Christine Dacera, who was found dead in a hotel room after the New Year's Eve party, has been making headlines for weeks.

Police said she was raped and killed and three men were arrested. But the men were released because there was not enough evidence.

The order to remove Makati Police Chief Harold Depositar is the latest development and comes after criticism of the handling of the case.

On January 4, police issued a statement saying they had already resolved the death of the 23-year-old flight attendant. Police say she was raped and killed.

Police arrested three suspects while nine others were on the run, the statement added. The 12 men were with her on the night of the incident.

Despite a medical examination of the death, Depositar confirmed that they had already considered it a rape case.

A second autopsy was performed on the Otis woman's body, and officials are awaiting the results. Her family believes the results will show that Dacera was forced to use drugs and raped and killed.
