Cambodians and many in the international community have erupted in criticism and reaction from Australian travel agency Wendy Wu Tours, which took a picture of Cambodia's Angkor Wat and wrote the word Vietnam on it.
"Wendy Wu Tours" is a well-known Australian travel agency that brings international tourists to Cambodia frequently. Recently, the website of this travel agency posted pictures of many tourist sites around the world, including pictures of Cambodia's beautiful Angkor Wat temples.
But the site made an inadvertent mistake: at the top of the image of Angkor Wat, the word "VIETNAM" is spelled, leading to the misconception that Angkor Wat is in Vietnam.
The mistakes of this Australian tour company have led to tremendous criticism from the Cambodian people and some of the international community who are well aware of the location of Cambodia's Angkor Wat temples. At the same time, the public also requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia to take serious action against this mistake.
Upon receiving this information, officials from the Ministry of Tourism immediately contacted the night of September 21, 2020 to request the agency "Wendy Wu Tours" to correct the error on its website immediately.
Prak Vuthy, director of the Ministry of Tourism's Department of Overseas Tourism Marketing and Promotion, told Fresh News this morning that the ministry had already contacted Wendy Wu Tours to revise the information. The agency also apologized to Cambodia and agreed to revise it, changing the word VIETNAM to SOUTHEAST ASIA.
Mr. Prak Vuthy explained that the reason why Wendy Wu Tours did not change back to CAMBODIA was because the company wanted to show that "Cambodia's Angkor Wat" is a symbol of Southeast Asia on its website because Angkor Wat is The World's Most Known Heritage Site
Although Wendy Wu Tours has already edited the front page of its website, there is another place that the company has not yet edited: when entering the Brochures tab, you can still see the image of Angkor Wat applying VIETNAM is still on top.
At this point, the Ministry of Tourism will also contact the company to make adjustments in all aspects.
