Tomato juice has a sweet and sour taste that can add flavor and color to many foods. Many people like this popular sauce, both men and women, young and old, but eating a lot of tomato juice unknowingly affects health.
Tomato juice does not contain protein and fiber, said Dr. Priya Palan, a dietitian at Zen Polyclinic. It is rich in sugar, salt, spices and corn syrup. Eating too much tomato juice can affect your health, such as:
1. Heart disease: Eating a diet high in corn syrup raises triglyceride levels (blood fats) and causes heart problems.
2. Obesity: High sugar and corn syrup in tomato juice makes us gain weight.
3. Arthritis: Eating a lot of processed foods increases the risk of inflammation, which means we may have joint problems later in life.
4. Heartburn: Dr. Priya Palan also added, "The amount of malic acid and citric acid in tomato juice increases the acidity in the stomach, which causes heartburn. "If we have digestive problems or heartburn (GERD), we should avoid eating tomato juice."
5. Kidney problems: Eating foods high in sodium (salt) increases the amount of calcium in the urine. It increases the risk of kidney stones.
6. Allergies: Tomato juice contains histamines, which can cause allergies.
7. Diabetes: Sugar and corn syrup in tomato juice raise our blood sugar levels.
8. High blood pressure: Eating too much tomato juice causes us to have high blood pressure and mineral imbalance in the body because it contains high sodium (salt).
Tomato juice has a low nutritional value. It does not contain protein, vitamins, minerals or fiber, instead it is high in sugar and sodium (salt). We should eat foods rich in nutrients to be good for physical health.
