President of Vietnamese Association in Cambodia says illegal Vietnamese citizens can not return to the country

Phnom Penh: Measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Vietnam are the main reasons that prevent the return to Vietnam of people living on Cambodian waters. This was confirmed by Mr. Sim Chi, President of the Vietnamese Association in Cambodia, to a local newspaper after he submitted a letter to the Phnom Penh authorities to explain why.

According to an interview on the morning of June 14, Sim Chi confirmed that Vietnamese authorities have now restricted entry and exit through border crossings to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Vietnam has more than 10,000 cases and nearly 60 deaths.

"During the Vietnamese border closure, if the authorities in the provinces do not allow Vietnamese citizens to stay temporarily in their local waters, Vietnamese people will have to move their floating houses, boats or rafts back to Phnom Penh." The president of the Vietnam Association explained that.

So far, the relevant local authorities in Phnom Penh have confirmed the progress under the order of the Governor of Phnom Penh, which requires the owner of the floating fish and other irregular structures to be removed to maintain the beauty and hygiene.

According to Mr. Sim Chi, illegal Vietnamese citizens who have moved out of the river in Phnom Penh, some have set up tents along the river and some have rented houses.

Please be informed that many kilometers of Cambodian territory were lost to Vietnam due to the encroachment on the border almost every day, many Cambodian provinces lost to Vietnam (Kampuchea Krom) and many other islands. Cambodia is a small and poor country. It is not yet possible to reclaim its territory.
