Inter-ministerial officers have launched a crackdown on transgender sites under two different beauty salons in Phnom Penh.
The operation to crack down on transgender people took place on the morning of March 3, 2021, with one location called GANGNAM BEAUTY & CLINIC located in Sangkat Tumnup Teuk, near the Chinese Embassy, Khan Boeung Keng Kang, Phnom Penh, and the other location named Dr. Beauty Center. Kang is located in Sangkat Boeung Kak II, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh.
Tan Sok Vichea, director of the Secretariat of the Anti-Counterfeit Products Commission of the Ministry of Interior, said the operation came after investigators learned that the owner of the transgender site had smuggled in a number of illegal drugs from abroad. Transgender people from women to men without proper permission by detaining the location owners who are Vietnamese and some Cambodian and Vietnamese individuals brought in for questioning and legal action.
Separately, Mr. Tith Suosdey, Deputy Director of the Hospital of the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, said that during the search operation until the closure of the transgender location, officers found many brands of drugs that are illegal and without permission from the Ministry of Health. Including young men's shirts cut to transgender to some women.
