Mr. Hiek Chanleang, Deputy Governor of 7 Makara District, was arrested by the Siem Reap Provincial Gendarmerie on the complaint of his ex-wife in Siem Reap Province regarding the crime of "adultery".
According to the information received on February 1, 2021, with the permission of Brigadier General Por Vannit, Commander of the Siem Reap Provincial Gendarmerie at 23:30 on the 30th. In January 2021, the Siem Reap Provincial Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Office raided a condominium in Krous Village, Svay Dangkum Sangkat, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province. Sangkat Boeung Tumpun, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh, and Mr. Hiek Chanleang, 42, Deputy Governor of Khan 7 Makara, were in the same room.
With the coordination of the Siem Reap Provincial Prosecutor, the Siem Reap Provincial Gendarmerie brought the two men and women to a specialized office for questioning in connection with the adultery. Later, with the approval of the Siem Reap Provincial Prosecutor, the authorities decided to arrest Mr. Hiek Chanleang and build a case to be sent to the Siem Reap Provincial Prosecutor. Heng Bolen was allowed to return home.
Authorities claim that the crackdown was due to a complaint from the victim, a 41-year-old female civil servant living in Boeung Chhouk village, Niroth commune, Chbar Ampov district, was the legal wife of Mr. Hiek Chanleang.
