Women marry young men raise mortality rate

The secret of a woman's long life is to marry a man of the same age. This is according to the claims of German researchers.

In general, married life makes people live longer, but too much age gap between spouses can adversely affect the age of men and women alike.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Marriage with an older man shortens a woman's lifespan, but marrying a younger husband doubles her life expectancy, according to a new study.

The findings are based on medical records of the lives of 2 million Danish couples, which states that every woman should marry a man her age.

The same medical record adds that in the past, men lived longer if they had a younger wife, so the researchers reflected this on women, but the opposite was true because women would die sooner if they were married to a younger husband.

A study by Dr. Sven Drefahl at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rosktock, Germany, shows that the age gap between a woman and her husband is shorter, whether she is married to an older man or younger.

Dr. Drefahl's report in the journal Demography states that men who are seven to nine years older than their wives have an 11% lower mortality rate than the average man. However, women who are 7 to 9 years older than their husbands have a 20% higher mortality rate than women her age.

Researchers used to think that life partners would be healthier and live longer because they chose a younger partner. But after researching a spouse who is too young, it can have a psychological effect, causing the partner to get older.

However, Dr. Drefahl says that the reasons why women marry younger men lead to shorter or faster aging are not entirely rooted in other factors, including poor access to care and disconnection. Close friends and a lot of stress.
