A river in Russia turns red for no apparent reason

Recently, a few pictures showed a tributary in Russia turned strangely red hot, which surprised many locals and social media users.

According to sources, the tributary, called Iskitimka, is located in the Kemerovo region of southern Russia and northern Kazakhstan. And the cause of the discoloration is believed to be caused by a leak of a substance that affects humans and animals. However, residents, including local officials, have not yet found the cause behind the leak.

After seeing this, a local said it looked like borscht soup, but it was probably more toxic. Another said that no ducks could swim in the river, as they were all on the shore.

Environmental officials said the red water was caused by a blockage, but no one knew what the pigment was. Meanwhile, the deputy governor of the area, Andrei Panov, said the city's sewer system could be a source of contaminated water and that police were now investigating the perpetrators and taking them to court.
