Sorry! Cambodia's oldest elephant, Pak Mai, has died

The Ministry of Environment has expressed regret for the loss of an elephant named Pak Mai, who died from illness on May 21, 2020. And the loss of Patmai is the rarest of elephants in Cambodia.

Park Mai, a 37-year-old male elephant, is among four others under intensive care. The interest of the Khmer Elephant Conservation Association is in Ratanakiri province.

Remarkably, in Cambodia there are between 400 and 600 elephants, mostly in the Cardamom Mountains, north of the Tonle Sap. And the eastern plateau in Mondul Kiri, a biodiversity rich ecosystem that provides habitats for elephants and other wildlife.

Asian elephants are now endangered across their habitats worldwide and are considered endangered. Also on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List.
